Institute of Living

The Institute of Living, one of the first mental health centers in the U.S., remains one of America’s leading not-for-profit centers for patient care, research and education in the fields of behavioral, psychiatric and addiction disorder. Through its dedicated, experienced and skilled clinicians, the IOL provides patients and their families with the highest quality of personalized care. Programs are offered for children, adolescents and adults struggling with mental illness as well as offering services specializing in Anxiety, Eating Disorders, and Geriatric Services.

Nurse Practitioner Role Scope

  • Evaluate and manage psychiatric disorders
  • Coordinate appropriate follow up care, referrals, and case management
  • Performs crisis intervention and medication management
  • Develop and implement long and short range treatment plans
  • Orders and performs diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, and provides patient notification and follow up care
  • Solicits medical management consult or input when appropriate
  • Completes all clinical reminders to keep each patient up to date in the system
  • Work in collaborative practice with Psychiatrist

Qualifications Behavioral Health Nurse Practitioner Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Master’s program preferred
  • Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Connecticut
  • National Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
