Nurse Practitioner (APRN) / Physician Assistant – Neurosurgical & Surgical

Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit/ Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Step Down Unit

Full Time: 40 hours Weekend/ Nights/ Holiday rotation required. (Differentials offered.) Hartford Hospital's Surgical Critical Care Team is committed to creating an innovative patient centered delivery system that continuously improves quality care. The Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (APRN) providers are part of a multidisciplinary team that plans and delivers care for complex multiple surgical patient populations including: general surgery, trauma, vascular, thoracic, liver transplants, neurology, neurosurgery, and other critical care patients as the service needs dictate.

The Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (APRN) provider would rotate in two varied surgical intensive care units and one surgical stepdown units. The Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (APRN) works in collaboration with the attending intensivist, critical care fellows, residents, the primary admitting team and consultants.

Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (APRN) responsibilities include managing multiple patients with varied critical illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, hemodynamic/ventilator management, continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH), daily progress notes, patient/family education and meetings. Extensive training and supervision is provided to the Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner (APRN) provider for skills such as arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, feeding tubes, and transcranial dopplers.

Qualifications

Nurse Practitioners (APRN) positions require National certification in Advanced Practice, MSN, and current CT Nurse Practitioner (APRN) License or eligible required. Physician Assistants (PA) positions require current CT Physician Assistants (PA) License and Board certification or eligible, Federal DEA, and CT Controlled Substance Registration. All disciplines require the demonstrated ability to positively interact with medical and nursing staff. Critical Care experience in Neurosurgery / Surgical Intesive Care Unit (ICU). Adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP) board certification and/or Critical Care Advance Practitioner experience
