Connecticut Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Society

Fall President's Message!

Posted almost 5 years ago by ENP Admin

It was both a refreshing and challenging summer. Our first board meeting was well attended however some of our elected positions found it necessary to resign.

So we have several new board members:
  • New Treasurer: Kristen Guida, DNP, APRN
  • New Health Policy Co-Chair: Monte Wagner, DNP-C, APRN
  • New Membership Chair: Lisa Burke, APRN

I am very excited to be working with these wonderful APRNs. These position changes were approved by the Board of Directors.

Because of this change I though it important to discuss the commitment when running for a board position. We hold meetings of the Full Board every month on the second Wednesday of the month. The Executive Board meets monthly for a conference call, these are held the second Sunday of the month. Per our By Laws, board members have free membership while serving, but also per our By Laws, if you miss more than 2 meetings then you're membership is no longer free. I would love for more people to volunteer for board positions, but I also want to make sure that anyone running has a clear picture of the commitment you are making. We have wonderful mentoring for new board members. Please consider joining us. We will be looking for new board members and committee in the spring.

It was very satisfying to see the 3 million nurse unite together this past week. Unfortunately it was to defend our profession from ignorant comments expressed by "The View" panelists. It was clear from the original comments and the apology comments that none of the panelists have any understanding of the scope of nursing practice. I must say I have enjoyed the many memes on social media this week. And shows that 3 million Nurses are proud of what we do! I know my 40 year career continues to be the best decision I ever made. I get to do something I love every day.

We are also looking at our legislative agenda for the coming session. You will be hearing more from our Health Policy committee.

Elizabeth Visone, DNP, APRN
